Derrick Assetto is an actor stuntman and model. The actor has been featured in major projects during his career: In 2005, Derrick was a water stuntman in a Russian adventure film, Equator and a Maasai warrior in an Italian movie La Talpa. The following year, he did the casting and had a role on a German movie titled African Mourn Amor. In 2008, he played a roadblock police officer in the BBC series Taking the Flak. In the Kenyan movie The First Grader, Derrick was a colonial soldier.
He has also been featured in the German movie Mourna Amor, he was one of the “Sedan” carriers. It was shot in 3 months, in Samburu, Amboseli, Tsavo, Lamu, Nyeri then Nairobi.
The model was featured on TV commercials for East African Breweries’ Milele campaign and Kenya Airways’ launch of the new 777. Derrick has also been the Face of Bon Aqua Mineral Water Billboard campaign for Francophone Africa.
The 37 year-old is also a casting director who notably did the amazing casting of Kona, MNet’s first Kenyan soap opera.
Derrick was also a Kenyan representative on the first ever Survivor Africa shot in Panama.
Derrick believes he resembles Beninese American actor and model Djimon Hounsou. He describes the Kenyan acting industry as “a bit hard because you have to hustle on your own” because there is no practice of having well established agencies in Kenya.
