The 45th CINEMED - International Mediterranean Film Festival of Montpellier (France) will take place from 20th to 28th of October 2023.

Online submissions of films to be selected for the different competitions and for the development grant are available on CINEMED website! Don't miss the deadlines for the short film, feature length documentary competition and for the development grant!

The Mediterranean Film Festival (Cinema) was established in 1979 by the team of the Jean-Vigo Ciné-club (Montpellier), which has been extremely active since the mid-1950s.

Its 45th edition is open to films related to the Mediterranean, its theme.

Applications accepted:
- Films completed since 1st July 2022. They must have the following characteristics:
--> the subject and handling must contribute to the cinematographic representation of the Mediterranean,
--> the director must be from one of the states in the Mediterranean Basin, the Black Sea states, Portugal or Armenia
--> films that have not been distributed in France either commercially, non-commercially, or on video
- Accepted screening formats: DCP
- Note: films presented for selection at the 2022 Cinemed cannot be entered in 2023.

As a reminder, in 2022 actors/directors Rachida Brakni and Éric Cantona jointly presided over the Features jury that included Delphine Gleize (director), Chloé Mazlo (director) and Piers Faccini (musician).

Youssef Chebbi (Tunisia) with his brilliant Ashkal. won the Golden Antigone 2022 (L'Antigone d'or, the Grand Prize of the Montpellier Festival, 🎖️ endowed with €15,000 by Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole)
His first feature fiction (solo) bagged two other awards from the 44th Cinémed. First, the prestigious Critics' Prize (🎖️ endowed with €2,000 to the director by the BNP Paribas bank) awarded by Hélène Marzlof (Télérama), Alain Masson (Positif), Baptiste Thion (Le Journal du Dimanche) who composed the Critics' Jury.
The JAM Award for Best Music given to Thomas Kuratli, the composer of Ashkal (🎖️ endowed with €1,200 by the JAM, Concert Hall, School of Jazz and Contemporary Music) loops the tripple by Youssef Chebbi (Read our review, in French).

Director Leïla Chaïbi (France, Tunisia) won the 2022 Documentary Award, with her highly sensitive Guardian of the Worlds. Called the Ulysse Decipro Prize - Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, the trophy 🎖️ for documentaries is endowed with €2,500 by Decipro and the Réseau des médiathèques de Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole. The 2022 Jury included Julie Paratian, producer, Lina Soualem, director, Tewfik Hakem, journalist and producer at France Culture.
